"Tangerines" is a picture that intends to give a voice to those hard workers who are constantly ignored for being undocumented. To create conversations about immigrants about these topics through art, I decided for this picture to utilize the style of manipulated photography to highlight the discreditation of many undocumented farmworkers. To emphasize what they live, I converted the photo to black and white to drive the viewers' attention to the oranges that are the only ones with their original color. The idea behind the manipulation of color in the picture is to symbolize how many times in society, our attention goes to what we can get and not what is behind it.
On the other hand, I decided that the image would come out of the frame to represent that the photograph's meaning goes beyond being a piece of art. Its goal is to incite conversations about the essential work of the many undocumented field workers in the Central San Joaquin Valley.
